How to use Watch 'n Learn

1. Before creating a new exercise, follow the 4 steps below

1.1 Decide which word you want to teach your student. You can teach your student:
Objects (which can also be used to teach names of places and people)
Actions (verbs)
Adjective

1.2 Write scenario

1.3 Film scenario

1.4 Take 4 pictures if it is an objects or adjective exercise or
Make 2,3 or 4 videos if it is an actions exercise.

2. Import your videos and photos to your WNL library

2.1 Import your videos to your library
“New Asset”
Select the video you want to use
Trim the video if necessary by tapping the white arrow just below “use” on the upper right corner of your screen. Your movie will be shown between yellow lines and you can change where the movie begins and ends.
Tap “use” in the upper right corner
Add a description
Add tags
If used in selection screen for actions, use the white button below the video to select the thumbnail of your video. The child will see this image when he has to make a selection between several action videos so make sure this image clearly shows the action.
You can also switch on the button “use as reward video” in this screen, if you want to add your own reward videos
“Save” bottom right corner

2.2 Import your photos to your library

4. Do the exercise

A: Objects exercise
Go to “objects”
Select the exercise you want to do
Tap the play button, the video in which you use the target word, will be played
After this, the four images will be shown in a random order
Select the correct image by tapping that image
If the student has selected the correct image, that image will be shown full and he has to name the object shown. You may add a question such as: what is this?
If his answer is correct, tap the OK button and the reward video will be shown.
If his answer is incorrect, tap the incorrect button on the left. If you do not want to tap either button, tap the “out” button in the middle. That way, you can get out of the exercise without having to see the reward video and without going back to the first video.

If the child does not select the correct image out of 4, the first video will be shown again automatically.

Tip 1: use the search function on top of your screen to find your exercise
Tip 2: if your student can read, tap the blue eye on the right corner. Tapping this bleu eye removes the titles above your exercises and when you type the name of the exercise in the search bar, there will be black dots instead of letters so your student can never read the target word
Tip 3: In every screen you can return to the previous step if you want to. You can do this by tapping “back” on the top left corner.

B: Actions exercise
Go to “Actions”
Select the exercise you want to do
Tap the play button, the video in which you use the target word, will be played
After this, the four videos will be shown one after the other in random order
Select the correct video by tapping the image of the video
If the student has selected the correct image, that video will be shown full screen and he has to name the action shown. You may add a question such as: what is he doing?
If his answer is correct, tap the OK button and the reward video will be shown.
If his answer is incorrect, tap the incorrect button on the left. If you do not want to tap either button, tap the “out” button in the middle. That way, you can get out of the exercise without having to see the reward video and without going back to the first video.

If the child does not select the correct video, the first video will be shown again automatically.

C: Adjective exercise
Go to “Adjective”
Select the exercise you want to do
Tap the play button, the video in which you use the target word, will be played
After this, the four images will be shown
Select the correct image by tapping that image
If the student has selected the correct image, that image, together with the contrast image will be shown on the last screen and he has to name the property of the image on the right.
In this exercise you have to ask a question while at the same time pointing to the right image such as: THIS (name of object) is…..?
If his answer is correct, tap the OK button and the reward video will be shown.
If his answer is incorrect, tap the incorrect button on the left. If you do not want to tap either button, tap the “out” button in the middle. That way, you can get out of the exercise without having to see the reward video and without going back to the first video.

If the child does not select the correct image out of 4, the first video will be shown again automatically.
